Classroom Organization

a place for everything - and everything in its place
  • My lesson Plan book is on my desk
  • Materials are in the Monday-Friday clear stackable drawers to the left of my desk.
  • Games, art materials and extra curriculum materials are stored in large metal cabinets.
  • I have lesson plans and materials divided up in file folders by month; Reading, Math and Writing plans are in file folders and resources for teaching them are in 3-ring binders.
  • Books are on shelves and divided up by level and/or subject on the library center shelves and by subject on my personal shelves.
  • DAP tubs and Math tubs hold manipulatives for teaching math.
  • Materials for teaching reading are kept near the reading/writing table.
  • Centers are organized around the room and labeled. The room is divided up by shelves to make areas more defined.
  • Fine Motor Skill toys and activities are located on the blue bookshelf under the windows near the block center.
  • Friday Folders, Red Independent Reading Folders and Green Math Folders are in tubs on the blue shelf that divides the carpet area from the rest of the room. Journals are on the shelf that divides the carpet area from the library area.
  • Browsing boxes with browsing books are on the shelf in front of the window in the kitchen area.
  • Student cubbies hold their school supplies and any work they need to save to take home at the end of the day.
  • Student hooks are labeled with their names so they can have a place to hang their coats and bags.
  • The calendar materials, big books, materials for Jolly Phonics, Phonemic Awareness and Community Building are at the calendar/carpet on a wooden “big book” shelf.
