Gifted and TalentedI am currently enrolled in Drake University's graduate program for the Gifted and Talented Endorsement. I will finish the program in August, 2009. The reason for pursuing an endorsement in TAG is that I have realized I greatly enjoy teaching TAG students. The TAG endorsement provides necessary training to adequately meet the diverse social and academic needs of talented and gifted students. Also, I work well with small groups and am very good at planning, organizing and coordinating with other teachers. These skills are necessary for a TAG teacher who in addition to teaching TAG students is often responsible for collaborating with other teachers in order to offer support and resources for the classroom as well as plan and organize curriculum for the gifted and talented. It is imperative that I provide support and advocate for my gifted and talented students. After all, TAG students are gifted and talented 24/7, not just when they meet for pull-out classes! The following are some of my work samples completed through Drake's program for the TAG endorsement. Creativity The purpose of this document is to provide information and activities on a variety of different creative topics and techniques. Not unlike an online tutorial. The idea is to have a series of these, each on a different topic. The one I completed covers attribute listing. There are many different groups who would find this information useful. They are:
Social Emotional The following is a link to a Power Point presentation with notes I created for my social emotional class. For this assignment I focused on the importance of goal setting with gifted and talented students. Independent Study Guide PDF Case Study The following is a case study I completed. The purpose of this assignment was to gain experience in the identification of TAG students and to gain insight into the many facets of gifted and talented education. Case Study Curriculum and Assessment This is an example of a review that I did for a resource that could be used with TAG students. To do the review I looked at the following: Content-alignment, depth, research base, authenticity, accuracy, accessibility and engagement. Process-use of thinking skills. Products-assessments, products. Other-variety, ease of use, durability and cost. Resource Review This is an example of a unit that I evaluated and revised based on needs of gifted and talented students.
